Commission Welcomes New Executive Director

The Mississippi Access to Justice Commission welcomes Davetta Lee as its new Executive Director. Davetta is a 2006 graduate of Mississippi College School of Law. Davetta comes to the Commission from Young Williams, PC where she served as a staff attorney assisting with the privitization of Mississippi Department of Human Services cases. She was primarily responsible for an active docket of over 400 cases, including settlement negotiations and advocacy at Chancery Court and County Court hearings in Jones and Lauderdale Counties. Prior to joining Young Williams, she worked for several years as a program and policy analyst at the Enterprise Corporation of the Delta (ECD). ECD is a nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution that strives to create equal access to economic opportunity. Her work at ECD was focused on corporate reporting, small business hurricane recovery, and consumer protection policies with the Mississippi Economic Policy Center (MEPC). MEPC is a nonpartisan initiative of ECD that engages in rigorous, accessible adn timely analysis to inform the policy debate on issues that affect the economic and social well-being of working families and low-wealth Mississippians. Davetta's primary areas of research at MEPC included subprime mortgage lending, payday lending, and student loans. She also successfully spearheaded MEPC's first statewide policy conference, which presented information to government officials, business leaders, community advocates, educators, students, and other interested attendees. Davetta earned her Bachelor's degree from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2002. She is married to Jonathan Lee, a local businessman, and they are the proud parents of one daughter, Morgan Elizabeth.
